Expert summary
Space or outer space comprises the relatively empty regions of the universe outside the escape velocities of celestial bodies. It was once believed that outer space is totally empty. It contains a low density of particles, mainly hydrogen plasma, and electromagnetic radiation. Objects in outer space are observed, explained, and measured in astronomy. It is assumed to contain dark matter and dark energy. Usually, everything beyond the Karman line, which is 100 kilometers above the Earth’s surface, is thought of as part of space. Outer space has effectively no friction and so allows stars, planets and satellites to move freely along their trajectories. Stars, planets, asteroids, and satellites keep their atmospheres by gravitational ... Read more
